Where the Bush Meets the Beach
Saadani National Park is the only place in East Africa where the Indian Ocean meets the African savannah a rare destination where you can enjoy a classic safari and a relaxing beach escape in one setting. Located halfway between Dar es Salaam and Tanga, and just north of Bagamoyo, Saadani is Tanzania’s only coastal wildlife sanctuary, offering a perfect blend of wilderness, water, and culture.
Covering more than 1,100 square kilometers, Saadani is home to elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, warthogs, waterbucks, and a wide variety of antelopes. Lions and leopards are occasionally seen, while the Wami River teems with hippos, crocodiles, and hundreds of water birds. Along its serene beaches, green turtles lay their eggs, one of the few protected nesting sites on the Tanzanian coast.
Visitors can enjoy game drives, boat safaris, bird watching, and guided walks, or simply relax on the beach as waves roll gently against the shore all while watching wildlife wander in the distance.

How to Get There
- By Road: Saadani can be reached by car from Dar es Salaam (about 4–5 hours via Bagamoyo), from Tanga (about 3–4 hours), or from Zanzibar by boat transfer. The road from Bagamoyo to Saadani offers scenic coastal views and local village life.
- By Air: Charter flights are available from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha, and other major Tanzanian destinations to Saadani Airstrip.
- By Boat: Private or organized boat transfers can be arranged from Zanzibar or Bagamoyo, offering a unique approach to the park from the sea.
