Lake Manyara National Park

Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s dramatic western escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most scenic and diverse wildlife destinations. The park spans 648 square kilometers, with much of its area covered by the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara, whose shimmering waters change color with the light and seasons.

A Lake Manyara safari offers an unforgettable mix of landscapes  from lush groundwater forests and open savannahs to acacia woodlands and bubbling hot springs (Maji Moto). The park is home to eleven distinct ecosystems, supporting one of the highest concentrations of large mammals in Africa.

As you drive through the park, you’ll encounter troops of playful baboons, tree-climbing lions (a rare and unique sight), and large herds of elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest. The lakeshore, with its vast green vegetation and swaying woodlands, attracts hundreds of bird species including flamingos, pelicans, and herons making Manyara a paradise for bird lovers with nearly 500 recorded species.

During the rainy season, the lake transforms into a spectacle of pink flamingos, while the dry season reveals open plains where predators and grazers roam freely. The dramatic backdrop of the Rift Valley escarpment completes this breathtaking wilderness experience.

Adding to its charm is the Marang Forest Reserve, a 250 sq km highland forest recently incorporated into the park, offering new opportunities for exploration and adventure.
