Mount Kilimanjaro
The roof of Africa experience the adventure of a lifetime
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) the highest peak in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. Rising majestically from the plains of northern Tanzania, Kilimanjaro offers breathtaking landscapes, incredible biodiversity, and one of the greatest trekking adventures on Earth. The mountain’s existence has long fascinated explorers. In 1848, German missionary Johann Rebmann was the first European to document seeing snow on the equator. Decades later, in 1889, German geographer Dr. Hans Meyer and Austrian mountaineer Ludwig Purtscheller became the first to successfully reach the summit, an accomplishment that opened Kilimanjaro to the world.
Today, thousands of climbers from around the globe take on this challenge each year, making it one of the most popular trekking destinations in the world.
About Mount Kilimanjaro: Located near the Kenyan border, just east of Arusha and Moshi, Kilimanjaro National Park surrounds this world-famous dormant volcano made up of three volcanic cones:
- Kibo (5,895 m) – home to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa
- Mawenzi (5,149 m) – rugged and dramatic
- Shira (3,962 m) – an ancient eroded plateau
Kilimanjaro was first recorded by German missionary Johann Rebmann in 1848, who reported “snow on the equator.” The first successful ascent came in 1889 by Dr. Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller. Today, thousands of climbers from around the world come to Tanzania each year to stand atop the “Roof of Africa.”
